The Sweet Science Rankings: Week of June 25th, 2023

There are major changes in the rankings at 115lbs this week. Jesse Rodriguez (USA) announced his plan to match Sunny Edwards at 112lbs and is therefore removed from the 115lbs rankings. Joining him is Joshua Franco (USA) whose miserable effort at making 115lbs ended in him weighing in above the bantamweight limit. Thankfully, Kazuto Ioka was able to see him off impressively anyway. What this means is that everyone below #3 moves up two spots and Mexican veterans Francisco Rodriguez and Pedro Guevara enter at #9 and 10 respectively. Finally, Argentine Fernando Martinez (pictured) leapfrogs Japanese Junto Nakatani after stopping Jade Bornea in nine rounds.

Elsewhere, Scotsman Josh Taylor announced he is leaving 140lbs to box at 147lbs.  He is removed from the 140lbs rankings and Shohjahon Ergashev (Uzbekistan) returns at #10.  After 14 months of inactivity, Cuban Yordenis Ugas is removed from the 147lbs rankings, and American Rashidi Ellis is introduced at #10. Liam Smith has also hit the 14 month limit, but only at 154lbs where he is removed and American Tony Harrison returns. Smith continues to rank at 160lbs. A second American improves his 154lb standing, Erickson Lubin moving ahead of Michel Soro (Ivory Coast) to the #7 spot.”

*Please note that when the fighter’s name appears with an asterisk it represents a movement in ranking from the previous week.
