Oscar De La Hoya Foundation's 13th Annual Charity Golf Classic
Oscar De La Hoya, Kelly Slater, Kevin Sorbo, Michael Pena All Hit The Links For A Great Cause
BURBANK, CALIF. August 12 – For over a decade, the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation has positively affected the lives of those in the Southern California area, creating and maintaining a state of the art cancer center, a charter high school, a labor and delivery center and a neonatal intensive care unit.
But it isn't possible to do it alone, so on Monday, August 12, the Foundation's 13th annual charity golf classic was held at the Lakeside Golf Club, bringing not just “The Golden Boy,” Oscar De La Hoya, to the links, but several entertainment and sports world celebrities who competed to raise money for this worthy cause.
“This event has always been one of the highlights of the year for me, not just because I have the opportunity to compete against my friends on the golf course, but because we were able to raise money and bring awareness to the work done by the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation,” said founder De La Hoya.
In attendance at the August 12 charity golf tournament were Henry Tillman, John O'Hurley, Richard Schiff, Kelly Slater, Michael Pena, and Kevin Sorbo. All proceeds raised benefitted the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation.
In 1995, the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation was created to bring a better quality of life to the people of East Los Angeles. Today, with the help of many, the foundation serves thousands of people annually. The Foundation supports and funds the Oscar De La Hoya High School, the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center and the Oscar De La Hoya Children's Medical Center (both located at the White Memorial Hospital) and numerous after school programs to help guide young people toward leading positive lives and away from gang violence, juvenile delinquency and substance abuse.
Sponsors for this year's classic included Barry's Tickets, MGM Resorts International, Enlow & Associates, World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, White Memorial Medical Center, Showtime Sports, CBS Corporation, Brener Family Foundation, World Boxing Organization, UBS Private Wealth Management, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, WTAS, Skechers, Representative Luis Arroyo, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Wells Fargo Insurance, FOX Deportes and Golden Boy Realty Services, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and Art M. Gastelum (GSE).
