Roberto Garcia-Breidis Prescott Tops FNF
Welterweights García, Prescott Headline ESPN Friday Night Fights and Noche de Combates
The July 25 edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra and ESPN Deportes’ Noche de Combates presentado por Corona Extra will feature Welterweights Roberto “La Amenaza” García (35-3, 1 ND, 23 KOs) and Breidis Prescott (27-5, 20 KOs) in the 10-round main event. Friday’s show from the UIC Convention Center in Chicago, will air live at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2, broadband Spanish-language ESPN Deportes+ and WatchESPN. ESPN Deportes will air the fights at 10:30 p.m. The card is promoted by Warriors Boxing.
Commentators:
Todd Grisham, filling in for Joe Tessitore, will be ringside with analyst Teddy Atlas describing the action for ESPN2. Commentators Alex Pombo and Delvin Rodríguez will call the fights for Noche de Combates on ESPN Deportes, while Claudia Trejos and Leopoldo González will anchor the studio. Bilingual reporter BernardoOsuna (@osunaespn) will present live interviews and reports for both shows.
Main Event:
Texas’ García — who has won his last seven fights — is coming off a sixth-round TKO win over Victor Cayo on the May 1 edition of Friday Night Fights. Prescott, who hails from Colombia, is looking to score another victory following a 10-round unanimous decision win over Edison Garcia. Prescott enters Friday’s fight having wins over high level opposition including: former WBA Super Lightweight titlist Amir Khan and current WBA Lightweight titlist Richard Abril.
“I think García is a good fighter and a strong fighter,” Prescott said. “But I have the advantage of a longer reach and I use it real good… I’m making a big come back, and I want to be on top!”
García said, “I think of Prescott as I think of every other fighter – every fight is important…I never promise KOs or anything, but I do promise one thing – I’m a fighter. I’m a throwback fighter, I fight with everything I’ve got, and I leave it all out there. I give it my best.”
Co-Feature:
Friday’s 10-round co-feature will pit Middleweights Caleb “Golden” Truax (23-1-2, 14 KOs) of Minnesota against Pennsylvania’s Derek “Pooh” Ennis (24-4-1, 13 KOs). Truax is looking to score a win following a 10-round draw against Ossie Duran, while Ennis is coming off a six-round unanimous decision win over Emil Gonzalez.
Opening Fight:
Friday’s show will open with a six-round bout between undefeated Light Heavyweight Mike Lee (12-0, 7 KOs) and Paul Gonsalves (7-3, 3 KOs
