Philip Michael Joins KNOCKOUT

KNOCKOUT brings on Scandinavian broadcaster for Roy Jones’ Aug. 15 ring return

Los Angeles, CA — KNOCKOUT, the boxing docu-series KNOCKOUT on nuvoTV and Fuse, featuring boxing superstars and pound-for-pound champions Roy Jones Jr., Shane Mosley and superstar trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., is bringing on multilingual broadcaster Philip Michael in a continued effort to bring boxing to new audiences.

“Philip is a charismatic, multi-ethnic talent with a big future in TV,” show creator and executive producer Steven Marcano said of Michael, who’s born to a black mother and Danish father.

KNOCKOUT is currently in its second season after a successful first run on nuvoTV. Michael, 31, will be the first Scandinavian — and one of only a handful of non-fighting black broadcasters — to hit the U.S. boxing airwaves.

“With KNOCKOUT growing as it has, we wanted to bring on a fresh voice that can connect and resonate with new audiences,” Marcano said.

Michael made his TV debut at age 20 on Danish talent show TV Akademiet, where he was among selected among thousands of auditionees to compete for a spot as the country’s new TV host.

“Philip has the smarts, charisma and most importantly the keen boxing knowledge to do just that and we’re thrilled to have him join the broadcast,” Marcano said.

KNOCKOUT will be Michael’s first appearance on U.S. television.

“We’re bringing boxing to a new audience with KNOCKOUT,” said 2015 BET Video Director of the Year winner Benny Boom, the director for the show.

Boom has directed a who’s who of artists, including Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent and P. Diddy. “We’re excited to have Philip join us on this journey.”

Michael, a rising international broadcasting talent, has covered sports, real estate and business all over the world, including Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fights from ringside, with stints on SiriusXM, TheStreet.com, Bisnow, and Ekstra Bladet, a leading European sports daily.

“Philip is one of the most outstanding and prolific writers in the country,” said Randy Gordon, who is both the former Editor-in-Chief of Ring Magazine and Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.

Now the host of SiriusXM’s “At the Fights” and blow-by-blow announcer on the network for Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series, Gordon said, “Philip has a thorough knowledge of both the business of boxing and of the sport itself. When those attributes are combined with his likable personality and easy-going delivery, I believe they will translate into him becoming a fan favorite.”

Michael has master’s degrees in Psychology, Communications and Business Administration, which included a stint at Harvard University.

His first assignment will be the August 15 return of pound-for-pound boxing legend Roy Jones Jr., set to air on KNOCKOUT as part of the elimination-style series.

Michael’s co-commentators will be announced at a later date.

“I’m just honored to be part of an innovative, progressive show and continue the recent trend of showcasing boxing on television to bigger audiences,” Michael said. “I’m going to do my absolute best to make KNOCKOUT the best boxing show known to man, no matter the size of my contribution.”
