Rousey Knows Revenge Dish Best Served Cold; Explains Mayweather Barb

GLENDALE, CALIF.-UFC superstar Ronda Rousey knocked out Floyd Mayweather without a single blow.

“I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once,” Rousey said to a television reporter.

After winning the ESPYs “Best Fighter” Rousey fired the jibe at the boxing star through the media following her win in beating out male challengers Mayweather, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Terence Crawford and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for the award.

It was retaliatory strike for a comment Mayweather made a year earlier when asked about Rousey. He acted like she was unknown to him.

“I was kind of biding my time for the right time to respond. . .when somebody explained who I was, he said, ‘I know who that is.’ I know for damn sure he knew who I was. He was the best fighter that year and he had signed MMA fighters so his feigned ignorance was meant as a snarky remark to me,” Rousey told the media on Thursday at her gym in Glendale.

Dozens of reporters showed up at Rousey’s gym, no surprise after she walked away with two trophies from the ESPYs, for Best Female Athlete and Best Fighter.

Aside from Rousey, if anyone had a chance at winning the Fighter of the Year it would be “Triple G” who had a phenomenal year in becoming the most feared boxer on the planet.

Golovkin, who was also in attendance for the ESPY Awards ceremony, was gracious in defeat.

“I was happy to see her win and thought she was well-deserving and she is a real champion,” Golovkin said. “I have a lot of respect for her.”

Rousey’s performances in two fights in a 12-month span were explosive conclusions that ended quickly and in devastating fashion.

Mayweather’s last fight against Manny Pacquiao may have set pay-per-view records but also could be a most crushing blow to pro boxing. Casual fans eager to see the best fight the best, instead saw a bore fest and possibly have been driven away from the sport. It was void of drama or entertainment. Quite the opposite of Rousey’s last two fights which lasted a total 30 seconds. Yes, you read the correctly…30 seconds.

Despite the brevity of the two wins the crowd erupted in fanfare each time. Rousey comes closest to Mike Tyson’s abrupt wins. Fans expect quick, devastating demolition and she has delivered. In her last fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, more than 18,000 fans saw Rousey destroy Cat Zingano with lightning quickness and finality.

Casual fans expected entertainment and got it in full.

Rousey said she spent a year culling for the right moment to counter-attack Mayweather’s jibe. She remembers the day she heard Mayweather’s comment.

“I was sitting on the couch post-surgery, I got surgery on my knee the day before, I don’t let those kind of things slide but I also I’m a patient girl,” Rousey said on Thursday. “I wanted to respond at the most appropriate time where I thought I could make the biggest impression that I’m not the kind of chick you can make snarky remarks about. So I waited a whole year to say something. If I didn’t win that prize this year I would have waited two years, or three years. I would have waited for the exact time that I could have said that.”

She won on Wednesday and soon after sent the verbal missile in ballistic fashion.

“Yeah I thought it would get a big reaction,” Rousey said. “I’m not dumb.”

Rousey (11-0) is set to fight Bethe Correia (9-0) on UFC 190 in Rio de Janiero, Brazil on Sat. Aug. 1. It will be televised on pay-per-view.
