Roach Thinks Floyd Will Fight On, Try To Stage #MayPac2 Himself
Confession time: I do not believe Floyd Mayweathers’ Sept. 12 fight will be his last.
I know, bold stuff.
A boxer retiring isn’t in the “death” and “taxes” realm of certainties, is it?
I asked seven time BWAA trainer of the year Freddie Roach if he think “TBE” will be bidding the ring adieu after he fights Andre Berto, on a recent visit to the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.
Roach said he thinks Floyd will fight on…but maybe he’d be doing it with an aim to set up a Pacman rematch…and tweak the promotional arrangement along the way.
Roach told me that Floyd didn’t agree to a one-fight contract extension, with CBS, because he wants to put on a sequel fight by himself. Essentially, cut out the CBS as middleman, stage the thing himself…
“Anywhere close is good,” said Roach, about the revenue potential for #MayPac2.
