Feb 20 Mike Mollo vs Krzysztof Zimnoch in Poland
Mike Mollo vs Krzysztof Zimnoch – Chicago area Heavyweight Mike Mollo (20-5-1) returns to the ring for the first time in more than two years as he travels to Legionowo, Poland to face undefeated Krzysztof Zimnoch (18-0-1) this coming Saturday, February 27th in Poland.
Mollo is best remembered for his pair of fights against Artur Szpilka back in 2013. Mollo knocked the future world championship contender down twice in their first bout only to have it stopped controversially due to cuts Mollo sustained in the trenches. The second fight saw Mollo floor Szpilka again, but Szpilka got up and stopped Mollo in the 5th round. This will be his first fight since.
There was talk of promoter Tomasz Babilonski doing the fight between Mollo and Zimnoch as far back as February of 2013, but the fight never materialized.
Zimnoch is also working his way back from a layoff that saw him take two years off between October of 2013 and October of 2015. He has a fine record, and bringing in a fighter like Mollo must mean the promoters are putting him in a showcase bout, but he will be at a distinct experience disadvantage. Zimnoch has never fought a match scheduled for more than eight rounds. His best win comes over a 48 year old Oliver McCall.
Fighters from Poland have made an impact on the world scene in the last few years, especially in the heavier weight classes. Poland has hosted big boxing events in the past, and the Polish public follows their fighters passionately. The sport books have been known to carry the bigger cards from Poland in the last few years, so check back closer to the fights to see if a line pops up on Mollo vs Zimnoch.
Check out Mike Mollo’s interview with Ray Flores at The Boxing Channel.
The fights are set to air on PolSat Sport, and the production level on the shows aired on Polish television is usually excellent. The entire seven fight card as it stands today appears below.
