Bantamweight Alexis Santiago Victorious in “TOE TO TOE TUESDAYS” At Sams Club
Alexis Santiago Victorious – Alexis “Beaver” Santiago advanced to 21-3-1 with a 10-round decision over Eric Ruiz in the main event of a 10-fight card at Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The Santiago-Ruiz match, a bantamweight contest, and two 8-round preliminaries were aired on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes as part of the “Toe To Toe Tuesdays” series. The event was promoted by Leonard Ellerbe and Mayweather Promotions. The card was top-heavy with prospects that train at the bustling Mayweather Boxing Club.
Santiago, from Phoenix, now has a 10-fight winning streak. The scorecards, which favored Santiago by margins of 8, 9, and 10 points, were misleading as it was a fast-paced, entertaining affair. Ruiz, who dipped to 15-5, landed fewer punches, but rarely took a backward step. There were no knockdowns.
There was a mild upset in one of the preliminaries when Paul Parker scored a split decision over Lionell Thompson. A flash knockdown by Parker in the third frame proved to be the deciding factor. A tall, lanky cruiserweight from Toledo, Parker is now 8-1 (4 KOs). Thompson (16-4, 10 KOs), who hails from Buffalo, came on strong in the late rounds but in the eyes of two of the judges his rally was too little, too late.

The first of the three televised bouts was a super middleweight contest between Lanell Bellows (14-1-1, 7 KOs) and Antowyan Aikens (10-0-1). Bellows, from Las Vegas by way of Los Angeles, was the aggressor throughout and ultimately stopped Aikens, saddling his Atlantic City adversary with his first pro setback. The end came in round five. A big right hand sent Aikens to the deck, leading the referee to stop the bout.
In other undercard bouts of note, super lightweight Rolando Chinea from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, improved to 12-1-1 with a 6-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten (9-0) Ladarius Miller, and welterweight Juan Heraldez of North Las Vegas improved to 10-0 with a first round stoppage of Hungarian import Adam Mate who fell to 19-8.
