Parker vs Haumono Thursday – Weigh-in Results From Christchurch
Parker vs Haumono Thursday – This July 21st the Horncastle Arena in Christchurch, New Zealand hosts a five fight boxing card headlined by Joseph Parker (19-0) vs Solomon Haumono (24-2-2). The weigh-in results are complete and Parker tipped the scales at 106.4 KG, or 234.5 pounds while Haumono came in at 109 KG even, or 240.2 pounds.
Parker is just 24 years old, but he has emerged as the #6 ranked heavyweight in the world (TBRB.org) on the strength of his last win, over top 10 ranked Carlos Takam this past May. The match with Haumono is for regional bragging rites, however Parker is not expected to have too difficult a time with Haumono if you want to judge by the sports book odds.
Parker has spent time in La Vegas and in Germany training, but he has been fighting exclusively in New Zealand and the Oceania zone as his career has progressed. He had two six round bouts earlier in his career in the United States, and he figures to be fighting somewhere in the USA or Europe with a win tomorrow. Parker has been groomed throughout his professional career by Kevin Barry, who won an Olympic silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles games. Evander Holyfield was disqualified for hitting Barry during a break in the 3-4 match and had to settle for a bronze medal, while Barry did not compete in the title bout and settled for the silver. Barry never turned professional, instead electing to become a trainer, and Barry firmly believes Parker is the strongest prospect he has ever had.
