Tomoki Kameda Returns To Action Oct 15

Tomoki Kameda Returns – Japanese bantamweight Tomoki Kameda returns to action this October 15th as he faces Cecilio Santos in Campeche, Mexico. Kameda, a former WBO world champion at 118 pounds has been off for 13 months. Kameda has a fine 31-2 overall record as a professional, but 2015 saw him go 0-2 in world title fights against England’s Jamie McDonnell.
Santos (31-30-6) is a journeyman whose overall record is 4-9-2 since the start of 2012. Kameda is clearly not looking to take a big risk here, but the 25 year old is looking to get his career back on track with a change of scenery. The card also features a battle of Mexican veterans in the main event as Jorge Paez Jr (39-8-2) takes on Johnny Navarette (32-8-1) as well as ladies action as Anabel Ortiz (22-3) faces Debora Rengifo (7-2-1). The fights are set to air on the Spanish language cable channel beIN Sports in the United States.

Tomoki Kameda Returns
Kameda was part of a package deal that saw him and his brothers Daiki and Koki leaving the notoriously closed Japanese boxing scene to sign with the Premier Boxing Champions early in 2015. Training all three brothers is their father Shindo, who is a controversial figure in Japan and who is considered to have burnt bridges while signing with the PBC. The highly touted Kameda brothers showed flashes of charisma and talent, but the trio of brothers went 0-4 in 2015 to put a huge damper on the whole experiment.
Tomoki is now living in Las Vegas, and he has been preparing for his comeback under the tutelage of famed trainer Ismael Salas. Tomoki feels that the addition of Salas to his coaching team will show dividends when he returns to action, and he is confident he will be able to display Tomoki version 2.0, a version that will be stronger and sharper than in the past. Salas, who is training fighters out of the Bones Adams Gym on Redwood Street in Las Vegas also counts the likes of Yuriorkis Gamboa, Nonito Donaire, Beibut Shumenov and Rances Barthelemy among his other charges.
