Chantelle Cameron: “All or Nothing Against Jessica McCaskill”

Without being too concerned about her risky decision, American Jessica McCaskill, undisputed champion of the welterweight division, will descend to super lightweight to face off against Brit Chantelle Cameron in a fight that will leave the winner with the four most revered titles of the 140-pound division.

With seven consecutive wins, three in the super lightweight category and the last four in the welterweight category, “CasKilla” (12-2, 5 KOs) will try to take down “Il Capo” Cameron (16-0, 8 KOs).  The WBC and IBF belts will be on the line, along with the vacant WBA and WBO titles.

The fight is scheduled for November 5^th at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, where they will be featured on the undercard of the undefeated Kyrgyz Dmitry Bivol (20-0 11 KOs), WBA super champion at 175 pounds, and the strong, undefeated Mexican puncher Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez (44-0, 30 KOs).

On August 15, 2020, McCaskill astonished the boxing world with a victory by majority decision over Cecilia Braekhus, who was then the title holder of four welterweight belts (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF) and considered among the best fighters in the women’s sector.

In a close duel from start to finish, “CasKilla”, now 36 years old, received favorable scores from Gerald Ritter (97-94) and David Sutherland (97-93), while Karen Holderfield saw it at 95-95.

The setback for Braekhus prevented her from surpassing the record of 25 consecutive defenses set by legendary American heavyweight Joe “The Brown Bomber” Louis (66-3-0, 52 KOs) between June 1937 and September 1950. Louis, who died at the age of 66 on April 12, 1981, won the heavyweight championship belt by anesthetizing James J. Braddock in the eighth round on June 22, 193 at Comiskey Park, Chicago, Illinois and held his reign until March 1, 1949, when he temporarily retired.

In establishing her superiority over Braekhus, McCaskill won even more convincingly in the rematch on March 13, 2021. In her most recent ascent to the ring, McCaskill defended all four 147-pound belts when she knocked out Mexican Alma “La Conquistadora” Ibarra in the third round in Texas.

CHANTELLE CAMERON: “I’M A BETTER ALL-ROUND FIGHTER”

Born on May 14, 1991, in England, Chantelle Cameron obtained the vacant WBC title by defeating Brazilian Adriana dos Santos by decision on October 4, 2020. Twelve months later, on October 30, 2021, she won the IBF belt with a victory against American Mary “The Merciless” McGee, at the 02 Arena in England.

On May 21^st, Cameron beat Argentina’s Victoria Bustos (23-7-0, 0 KO), also at the 02 Arena, where the Brit made her third defense of the WBC title and the first of her IBF title.

Pertaining to her upcoming fight against McCaskill, Chantelle said, “Jessica is a very dangerous fighter and obviously undisputed at 147lbs. She’s been there and she’s done it. She’s got that crown at 147lbs so it’s definitely going to be my toughest fight to date. I’m expecting her to come out all guns blazing. She’s going to stick to my chest, but I’ve got a game plan A, game plan B and game plan C.

“I’ll make sure that I box how I want to box and not get caught up in a slugfest. As long as I stay switched on and do what I know I can do then this won’t be a messy fight. It’s going to be a good, hard fight, but I know I’m a better all-round fighter.”

“This fight means everything to me, for me it’s all or nothing,” said Cameron. “It’s a career-defining moment for me – this is what every boxer sets out to achieve when they turn professional. As soon as I became a World Champion, I said that the main goal was to become undisputed. To become undisputed would be my dream come true. It’s what I want to achieve in boxing.”
