Boxing News: Barrera vs. Peden on September 17
LOS ANGELES (July 20, 2005) – With 11,992 fans in attendance at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last Saturday night to watch the middleweight championship fight between Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor, it is obvious that boxing is alive and well in the hearts of fight fans. But while an intriguing matchup between two great warriors is always an enticing prospect for followers of the sweet science, it’s not always economically feasible to be able to see these megafights live and in person.
Golden Boy Promotions believes that this attitude needs to change if boxing is to regain its status as one of this country’s major professional sports, and to help accomplish that goal, the company is pleased to announce that in association with the MGM Grand, tickets for the September 17 “Parade of Champions” show will begin at an affordable $50, keeping in line with the minimum ticket price for the Hopkins-Taylor card – which produced the MGM’s biggest one day sale ever for a boxing event.
“There is no greater thrill for a boxing fan than to be able to see a big fight in person,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “But in recent history it was impossible to do so unless you were prepared to spend a week’s salary to do so. We want to change that so now you can get a ticket to a big event and still have money left to buy a program, park your car, and have some food. It’s the ideal way to bring our fans back to the sport in its most intimate setting.”
Golden Boy Promotions’ September 17 “Parade of Champions” at the MGM Grand will feature the super featherweight title unification showdown between world champions Marco Antonio Barrera and Robbie Peden, and a welterweight clash between three division superstar Shane Mosley and unbeaten power puncher Jose Luis Cruz.
Tickets for “Parade of Champions” are priced at $50, $75, $150, $250, and $350, are on sale now, and can be purchased through the MGM Grand ticket box office or by visiting www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
