Alex Arthur Takes Care of Business in Edinburgh
Alex Arthur, 27, the British/Commonwealth super featherweight champion, won a unanimous decision over European super featherweight champ Boris Sinitsin, 34, Saturday night at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland, in a fight broadcast on ITV 2.
Arthur (21-1, 17 KOs), an Edinburgh native, dropped the Russian Sinitsin (46-8-1, 24 KOs) with only ten seconds remaining in the twelfth and final round. Although the Muscovite beat the count, it was already a done deal as to who the winner was.
The Scot started strong and landed some big shots in the first two rounds. Sinitsin came on in the third and found the range with a solid left which cut Arthur above his right eye.
Although he was bleeding, Arthur did not lose his cool and continued to soldier on. His youth, and his hunger, overcame Sinitsin’s vastly superior ring experience. Even another cut, this time due to a clash of heads, did not deter Arthur from taking the fight to his opponent, and completing the next step toward his goal, a super featherweight world championship.
