Boxing News: What the heck? Valuev to fight Own Beck
The new WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev, 32, aka The Beast from the East, who won the crown by disputed decision from John Ruiz last month in Berlin, has agreed to defend his title against Owen “What the Heck” Beck in April.
The champ’s spokesman, Konstantin Osipov, told Reuters, “Although Nikolai has yet to sign a contract to fight Beck, everything has been agreed, we expect both sides to sign a formal contract within a week and the fight will be held on April 1 in Hamburg.”
Although Valuev has yet to be tested, he has a few firsts to his credit: he’s the first Russian to hold the heavyweight title; plus he’s the tallest (7 feet) and heaviest (323 lbs.) world champion in boxing history.
The big Russian heavyweight champion, should be get by Owen Beck in Hamburg, has big plans for the future; Valuev wants to fight Wladimir Klitschko.
