Andre Ward REALLY Seeking Stoppage: Bad News For Dirrell?
Andre Ward has had ample time to mull over his last outing, against Allan Heard But Not Seen Green.
The Oakland resident told TSS that he thinks that the fact that he didnt, as desired, stop Green means bad things for whoever hed be slated to fight next. In fact, he has an opponent lined up, his pal Andre Dirrell, so…
The date and site havent been finalized, but its looking like Sept. 25, in Las Vegas, the 26 year-old WBA super middleweight champion told us.
Going in to camp this time, Ward says hell be even more focused on a stoppage mentality.
Three weeks away from the Green showing, Ward gives himself a B-. To me, it looked like Green dragged the fight down, with his unwillingness to really make a go of it. I asked Ward if he thinks he fought down to Greens level.
I dont know if he dragged me down, Ward said. I expected more from him. It takes two to make a competitive fight. I wanted to stop him, I wanted three points. I did show another side of myself, with that inside work.
Ward wont get down on himself, because he wasnt able to be the first man to finish off Green aka The Ghost Dog.
Ive had 22 fights, Ive got to leave room to grow, he said. Critics will always have something to say. Floyd Mayweather has had 41 fights, and I think hes the best fighter in the world, and they still criticize him. I use it for motivation. Hey, even if knocked him out in the fifth, some people would say it should have been the third. But because I didnt and I want to, that bodes bad for anyone I fight next. I think well see a better, different Ward, the third time out.
