Hopkins-Pascal Match Will Be On Pay Per View
World Boxing Council 175-pound titleholder Jean Pascal (26-1, 16 KOs), coming off the signature win of his career, against unbeaten Chad Dawson last month, meets former world light heavyweight and middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs) for the WBC light heavyweight title on December 18 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. SHOWTIME Sports will produce and distribute the fight. The PPV event will begin at 9 p.m. ET/PT. It is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
Am I surprised this is a pay per view event? Slightly. In his last fight, in April, Hopkins did a dreary waltz with Roy Jones. These two legends had seen better days, it was clear, and it was not clear afterwards whether Hopkins would soldier on. He is, and he is taking on a consideable challenge in Pascal. In Pascals back yard. For that, he should be congratulated. He is 45, and Pascal is 27. An active 27. A prime, energized 27.
TSS-EM sees Hopkins as a 2-to-1 underdog here.
There is a curiousity factor in play, to see if the young gun can take out the old dog. But enough curiousity to warrant a pay per view charge? That will be for the marketplace to decide.
Weigh in with your take, fight fans. Will you pony up? Hopkins-Jones II did about 150,000 buys. Will this one do the same? Better? is this good for the sports longterm health and growth?
Fire away, please.
