Canastota, New York HOF Announces The Class of 2016
The votes have been tallied, and the International Boxing Hall of Fame has announced the inductees for the Class of 2016.
The traditional ceremony of induction is part of “Hall of Fame” weekend, scheduled from June 9th to the 12th in Canastota, New York.
The inductees include:
Puerto Rico’s Hector “Macho” Camacho, who held world titles as a Super Featherweight, Lightweight and Light Welterweight will be enshrined post-humously.
Mexico’s Lupe Pintor was the WBC Bantamweight and Super Bantamweight World titlist in the late 1970s into the 1980s.
And Panama’s Hilario Zapata, who held Light Flyweight and Flyweight world titles throughout much of the 1980’s.
Also honored with induction was Old-Timer Petey Sarron of Alabama, who went on to become Featherweight Champion of the World back in 1936.
Trainer Whitey Esneault, a long-time fixture of New Orleans boxing best remembered as the trainer of Willie Pastrano.
The list of non-participants that were inducted includes Commissioner Marc Ratner, judge Harold Lederman, broadcaster “Colonel” Bob Sheridan and journalist Jerry Izenberg.
