WEIGHTS ARE GOOD, WAIT ALMOST OVER Floyd Is 146 1/2, Ortiz Is 147
Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz both made weight for their clash Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather (41-0), the 34 year-old master pugilist from Michigan, was 146 1/2 pounds on Friday. As Michael Buffer started his intro, boos popped up.
Ortiz (29-2-2), the 24 year-old from Kansas who earned this opportunity when he upset welterweight titlist Andre Berto in April, was 147 pounds on the dot.
Erik Morales, the sly (will he still be spry?) ole dog and Pablo Cesar Cano both weighed 140 on the nose.
The fighters in the Staples Center headline gig, Canelo Alvarez and Alfonso Gomez, also made weight. Alvarez was Gomez 152.6, well within the 154 pound max limit.
Readers, which one of these fights is most likely to produce an upset special? Ortiz, Cano and Gomez are considerable underdogs…
