DARLEYS PEREZ, presented SATURDAY, JUNE 8 at 10:00 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT) from the Bell Centre in Montreal. The HBO Sports broadcast team of Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman and Andre Ward will be ringside for the event, which will be available in HDTV, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.
Other HBO playdates: June 9 (11:30 a.m.) and 10 (11:30 p.m.)
HBO2 playdates: June 9 (4:30 p.m.) and 11 (midnight)
In the main event, light heavyweight champ Chad Dawson (31-2, 17 KOs) from New Haven, Ct. returns to the 175-pound division to take on Adonis Stevenson (20-1, 17 KOs), originally from Haiti and now living in Longueuil, Canada, in a scheduled 12-round title match. After a loss to super middleweight champ Andre Ward, Dawson looks to get back on track and stay atop the light heavyweight ranks. Stevenson has been tearing through the super middleweight division and is on a seven-bout win streak following his only loss, in 2010. This fight marks his debut at 175 pounds.
The opening bout is a 12-round, 135-pound showdown of undefeated lightweights Yuriorkis Gamboa (22-0, 16 KOs), originally from Guantanamo, Cuba and now living in Miami, Fla., and Darleys Perez (28-0, 19 KOs) from San Pedro de Uraba, Colombia. Gamboa, who won a 2004 Olympic Gold Medal, came to U.S. as a highly regarded prospect after more than 250 amateur contests, and has been a dominating presence in the featherweight and super featherweight divisions since turning pro. Perez has fought the majority of his fights in his native Colombia, but also has considerable experience in the U.S.
Immediately following the live doubleheader of boxing, HBO will present at midnight (ET/PT) the premiere of “2 Days: Gennady Golovkin.”
Then at 12:15 a.m. (ET/PT), boxing fans can switch over to the HBO Latino service for an intriguing fight from Montreal as undefeated Jose Pedraza (12-0, 8 KOs) from San Juan, Puerto Rico takes on Sergio Villanueva (25-2-2, 13 KOs) from Tepic, Nayarit Mexico in a 10-round super featherweight contest. Pedraza, unbeaten as a pro and now 24 years-old, spent a number of years in the amateur ranks fighting on the 2008 Puerto Rican Olympic team and in several international competitions. The 21 year-old Villanueva turned professional at the age of 16 and will be fighting for the first time outside of Mexico.
