Matthew Macklin Returning to Ring Dec. 7
Matthew Macklin is getting back on the horse after getting bucked in his last outing, advisor Anthony Catanzaro informs TSS.
Macklin, a 31-year-old Irishman who is highly regarded in the game for taking on all comers, will take on Willie Nelson in Atlantic City on Dec. 7.
“We like the fact we are fighting on the East Coast where Matt has tons of fans,” said Catanzaro, who hooked up with Macklin (29-5) after the Irishman felt the power of Gennady Golovkin on June 29, getting stopped out in round three. “We respect Nelson, and we know he will come to fight.”
Catanzaro, who also advises Paul Malignaggi, said Macklin is already in camp, and realizes the import of the bout. “This is a must win fight and we are treating it as such. We can’t wait to get back in the win column.”
The 21-1-1 Nelson has been singing sweetly in the ring of late; the Ohioan has won five straight.
