BAYAMON, PUERTO RICO (March 11, 2014) – The media and fans eagerly received Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia and his father and trainer Angel Garcia when they arrived today at San Juan International Airport in Puerto Rico.
In what's expected to be a highly competitive match up in the main event this Saturday, March 15, on SHOWTIMECHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT), Garcia (27-0, 16 KOs) will defend his unified super lightweight world title for the fourth consecutive time, this time against Mauricio Herrera (20-3, 7 KOs) in a 12-round bout.
The father and son team were enthusiastically welcomed by media who surrounded them for interviews. Here is what they had to say:
DANNY GARCIA:
“I am not coming here to lose my title. I am going to come and defend like always. It's not going to be easy. It's going to be a tough fight but I have prepared like I always prepare. I am ready to defend my title and win.
“I love being in Puerto Rico. I am so excited that they embrace me and I feel that I am giving back to my fans. I want to give them a good show.
“[On what we can expect to see from him on Saturday night] You can expect to see that same fast, powerful Danny. All excitement and they are going to leave knowing that they got their money's worth.”
ANGEL GARCIA:
“It's a great honor for me to bring my son, the world champion, in front of our own people where I was born and grew up. I am back at home with my son performing.
“Training went great. It has been the same as the last 26 fights. We trained hard and we didn't change anything. Everything was the same. The same winning combination and we don't expect any different results. It's going to be a win.”
