NY DAILY NEWS GOLDEN GLOVES FINALS TO BE AIRED ON SNY
AS PART OF DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT’S BROADWAY BOXING SERIES
PREMIERES SUNDAY, AUGUST 17, 8:00 PM EST
New York, NY (8/15/14) – This Sunday, August 17, SNY will air a special edition of DiBella Entertainment’s popular Broadway Boxing series, with the first of two episodes depicting the finals of the 2014 New York Daily News Golden Gloves tournament. The telecast will begin at 8:00pm EST.
On April 16 and 17th, the 87th annual New York Golden Gloves finals took place before a packed house at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, NY. Following the completion of the finals, it was officially announced that the New York Daily News and DiBella Entertainment entered into an exclusive joint partnership.
Since 1927, local boxers in New York have competed for the chance to win a Daily News Golden Gloves championship. The tournament was a launching pad for world champions such as Emile Griffith, Jose Torres, Floyd Patterson, Riddick Bowe, Mark Breland and Zab Judah. Thus far, 39 Golden Gloves medalists have gone on to win professional world championships.
“DBE is thrilled to forge this partnership with the New York Golden Gloves. The Gloves are one of the preeminent amateur tournaments in the world and a New York institution. Broadway Boxing has become the home for many former New York Golden Glovers. It is natural for DBE and Broadway Boxing to join forces with the Golden Gloves to bring this exciting action to our viewers,” said Lou DiBella, who served as the lead commentator on the broadcast both nights.
“Lou DiBella, being the great friend that he is, has committed to giving this exposure to these amateurs and it’s truly appreciated by all of us involved with the Gloves. Lou understands the value of NYC grassroots boxing and we are thrilled to have him involved in this capacity,” said Brian Adams, the New York Daily News Golden Gloves director.
“SNY is excited to add the Golden Gloves to our Broadway Boxing television package,” said Kevin Sornatale. “The rich history of the New York Golden Gloves enhances our overall boxing programming in 2014 and adds to our profile as the television home of all things New York sports.”
The bouts shown this Sunday, August 17, will include:
Jamie Estrada vs. Michael Stoute – 123lb. Open Class
Waris Aminy vs. Jared Bonilla – 141lb. Novice Class
Christian Bermudez vs. Christian Chavez – 132lb. Open Class
Schavez Peters vs. Juan Rojas Villalobos – 141lb. Open Class
Domonique White vs. Anthony DeMonte – 152lb. Novice Class

The broadcast will re-air on SNY on August 30 (8:00 PM ET), September 13 (5:00 PM ET), and September 22 (8:30 PM ET), as well as on other Comcast regional networks. More action from the Daily News Golden Gloves finals will air as part of a second episode on a date to be determined in November.
