Dusty Hernandez-Harrison To Do MLK Peace Walk
WBC Continental Americas and WBC Youth Welterweight Champion Dusty Hernandez-Harrison To Participate In Washington D.C. MLK Day Parade
WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 16, 2015) — This Monday, January 19, 2015, Southeast Washington, D.C., resident Dusty Hernandez-Harrison, the current WBC Continental Americas and WBC Youth Welterweight Champion, will participate in the Global Peace Makers 8th Annual MLK Peace Walk in his hometown.
“It’s pretty cool to be a part of something honoring MLK and his vision,” Hernandez-Harrison said. “My mom is Puerto Rican, my dad is white, my step-mom is Vietnamese and I am from a predominantly black neighborhood, that’s kind of what I feel Dr. King envisioned our society looking like one day.”
Hernandez-Harrison (25-0, 13KOs), who recently signed with sports and entertainment juggernaut Roc Nation, is coming off a dominant 10-round decision win over Tommy Rainone (22-6-1, 4KOs) this past Friday night at Madison Square Garden, which was televised on Fox Sports 1.
“Earlier this year I was presented with the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a Nationals (baseball) game, which was an awesome experience,” Hernandez-Harrison said. “Being a part of the MLK Parade in Southeast D.C. will be an opportunity for me to interact with more of my fans so I am very excited to be able to do this. It means a lot to me.
“I have had great support from boxing fans in DC, who have followed me to fights in Delaware, New Jersey and New York as well as when I’ve had the opportunity to fight here at home. So I am glad to be part of an event that means so much to so many people in my city.”
“We were very honored to get the call to be a part of such a special event,” Buddy Harrison, the boxer’s father and trainer, said. “The city of Washington, D.C., has been so supportive of my son, and we truly appreciate it.”
