Soto-Karass Outworks Aydin on Showtime

Soto-Karass – In the main support bout to the Lucas Matthysse-Mike Dallas main event on Showtime, Selcuk Aydin took on Jesus Soto-Karass in a welterweight-plus outing. Soto-Karass outworked Aydin, and outlanded him, 215-157, and scored a MD10 victory, by scores of 95-95, 97-93, 97-93.
Aydin seemed stuck in between styles, looking to be the slugger, and also trying to be a pugilist-specialist.
Aydin, age 29, was slugging from the start. S-K banged to the body, as usual, against the Turk. The Mexican, age 30, comes off a TKO8 loss to Marcos Maidana. Aydin too was coming off a loss, to Robert Guerrero.
In round two, S-K used his reach advantage over the shorter man. Aydin jabbed more than he sometimes does, but S-K was able usually to wing shots whenever he chose to do so. S-K was just plain busier, sending the message to the judges that he wanted it more. Aydin didn’t seem to be helped by new trainer Adam Booth, David Haye’s trainer.
S-K smartly took away the right hand as a weapon, because he hurled constant left hook to the body, so Aydin had to keep his right elbow glued to his side, to block. Aydin had a nice ninth, as he moved more, popped and then jetted. They rumbled to the close.
