Malignaggi: “I Would Beat Pacquiao Right Now, So Imagine What Floyd Does To Him?”
Fighter/analyst Paul Malignaggi owns more pop in the verbal department than in the fistic one, it must be said. That’s no slam on his power quotient, but as a boxer he relies on guile, and speed, and timing and getting angles…but as a talker, oh yeah, that kid can bring it.
As he did a couple days ago, when he talked to Tha Boxing Voice website about a possible Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. “The Pacquiao people are so adamant about [Mayweather’s demands] because they know they won’t win the fight, and it won’t be competitive,” he told Tha Boxing Voice following the Barclays Center-HBO-Golden Boy fights Saturday, after stating that Pacman is the B side in the equation, and thus has no standing to call any negotiation shots.
I followed up with Paulie a couple days after that story came out, to see if there’s been any blowback on him for being so candid.
“Yeah, I did get blowback but it’s the way I feel,” he said. “Honestly, I would beat Manny Pacquiao right now, so imagine what Floyd does to him!?
“We are all entitled to our opinions, and at this point I feel I beat Manny Pacquiao too, so imagine if Floyd fights him. Keep in mind I’ve never come close to losing to any southpaw I’ve ever faced!”
The Pride of Bensonhurst, who will be calling fights for Showtime on Saturday night, told me he won’t be getting into his fistic future till after the holidays. He lost in his last outing, to Shawn Porter, but does it sound to you like this man is hanging up the gloves? Rhetorical question, friends…
