Get Ready To Win Another TOY Award, Manny Tells Freddie, Because KO Is Coming!
He doesn’t ever recalling admitting this, in all his years, amidst all the wars he’s engaged in.
Freddie Roach, age 55, a fighter his whole life, who this evening receives his seventh BWAA Trainer of the Year award, in NYC, at the Boxing Writer’s gala fete, told me that he admitted aloud that he was “hurt” when his charge fired a launch at him during mitt-work.
“The last three times doing mitts, Manny has almost knocked me out,” said Roach on Friday, after telling me his older bro will stand in for him and accept the bauble at Capitale. “The last time, man, he hit me by mistake in the throat, and if it had hit my chin, it would have knocked me out. I would have been sleeoing for a week! It hurt..and I don’t think I used that word my whole life!”
The Massachusetts native told me that it’s not old hat for him to win the award, and guess what, he’s thinking about number eight. Why’s that?
“Manny told me yesterday that I will win number eight…because he will knock Mayweather out on May 2!”
