Sor Rungvisai vs Estrada Quick Results – HBO Boxing presented their “Superfly 2” card live from the LA Forum this past Saturday night and once again the little guys did not disappoint.
Challenger Juan Francisco Estrada fought a spirited fight against WBC world 115-pound champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in the evening’s main event. Estrada took punishment throughout the fight but a solid gameplan in the early going had many observers believe he was banking rounds. Sor Rungvisai come on in the middle rounds where he started to catch Estrada more and more. Both men hit the canvas during the fight in exchanges that were ruled incidental by the referee and neither man was seriously hurt. One judge had the bout a draw while the others saw it for Sor Rungvisai 117-111, and 115-113, crediting his harder punching throughout the fight.
The 115-pound action got underway as Carlos Cuadras faced McWilliams Arroyo in a “Mexico vs Puerto Rico” feature that saw both men slug it out over 10 rounds. Arroyo stayed composed despite returning from a layoff of nearly two years, while Cuadras’ once again seemed to get sloppier as the fight wore on. The judges returned the first majority decision of the evening as one judge saw the fight a draw while the other two had underdog Arroyo winning.
The flyweights were front and center as longtime world champion Donnie Nietes of the Philippines stopped Argentina’s Juan Carlos Reveco in the seventh round of their bout. Reveco was game throughout but Nieves turned it on during the sixth round where he broke through and hurt Reveco. From there it was not long in round seven before the bout was stopped as Nietes retains his IBF world title at 112 pounds.
Staff from The Sweet Science was ringside at the Forum for the fights, so you can check back throughout the weekend for more from the “Superfly 2” card.
